General Questions
Who uses Gravestone Revival, and why?
Families use our services for many reasons—out-of-town coordination, limited mobility, busy schedules, or simply wanting a memorial kept neat and dignified. We also support funeral professionals and cemeteries when a higher standard of presentation is needed.
I thought the cemetery was responsible for maintenance. Why would I need your services?
Cemeteries typically handle general grounds upkeep (mowing, roads, overall property). Detailed headstone care and personalized gravesite presentation are usually the responsibility of the family or plot owner—especially if you want a consistent, “always cared for” look.
I pay for perpetual care. Doesn’t that cover everything?
Perpetual care funds generally support the cemetery’s long-term maintenance of the grounds—not detailed headstone cleaning, lettering restoration, or personalized plot presentation. If you want the memorial itself to look clean, readable, and cared for, our services fill that gap.
Are you insured?
Yes. Gravestone Revival is fully licensed and insured for the services we provide in New York State.
Do you work respectfully around other families and nearby memorials?
Yes. We work quietly and discreetly, avoid disrupting nearby plots, and leave the area neat. Our approach is always dignity-first and preservation-first.
Do you provide proof that the work was done?
Yes. Before & After Photo Documentation and a Written Gravesite Condition Report are always provided.
Can you help if I live out of town?
Absolutely. Many clients coordinate from out of state. We’ll confirm the cemetery/town, clarify your goals, then complete the work and send documentation so you can see exactly what was done.
Service Area, Scheduling & Access
What areas do you serve?
We primarily serve Saratoga County, NY, with supporting service in Fulton County and Montgomery Counties. If you’re unsure, request an estimate and we’ll confirm availability.
Do you need the plot section and grave number?
It helps, but it’s not always required. At minimum, we need the cemetery name, town, and the name on the memorial (or any details you have). If a location is difficult to confirm, we’ll tell you what we need before scheduling.
Do you coordinate with the cemetery?
When needed, yes. We work within cemetery guidelines and will adjust your service plan to reduce the chance of items being removed due to rules or seasonal cleanups.
How far in advance should I book for holidays or meaningful dates?
For high-demand dates (Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Winter Holidays), earlier is better. If you have a specific date, include it in your estimate request so we can confirm scheduling.
What if weather is bad on the scheduled day?
We’ll communicate clearly and reschedule when needed. Preservation-first work and respectful presentation matter more than rushing during poor conditions.
Gravestone Cleaning
Why does a headstone need cleaning?
Over time, lichen, moss, mold, sap, environmental buildup, and staining reduce readability and overall presentation. Professional cleaning restores a more cared-for look and supports long-term preservation when done safely.
Do you use harsh chemicals or power washing?
No. Our approach is preservation-first and stone-safe. We do not use harsh chemicals and we do not use Pressure Washing Equipment.
How often should a gravestone be cleaned?
It depends on conditions (tree cover, shade, moisture, stone type). Many families choose seasonal cleanings or a care plan that maintains a consistently neat presentation throughout the year.
What if the memorial is fragile or the stone is deteriorating?
We’ll evaluate the memorial’s condition first. If we believe cleaning could cause damage or isn’t appropriate, we’ll explain why and recommend the safest next step.
Can you clean bronze markers?
Yes—bronze markers often benefit from specialized care. If you’re requesting bronze cleaning and wax/protection, include a photo in your estimate request so we can confirm the best approach.
Gravesite & Plot Maintenance
What does plot maintenance include?
Plot maintenance focuses on neat, respectful presentation: weeding, edging/hand-trimming, debris removal, and a tidy reset of the memorial area—always within cemetery guidelines.
Do you remove old flowers or decorations?
Yes—where permitted by cemetery rules. If a cemetery restricts what can be removed or relocated, we follow site policy and communicate clearly.
Can you help after storms?
Yes. We can provide light presentation support as part of plot upkeep (debris cleanup, tidy reset, repositioning permitted items). We do not perform heavy tree removal, monument lifting, or equipment-based cleanup.
Is plot maintenance available as a recurring service?
Yes. Many families choose seasonal visits or an annual plan for predictable upkeep—especially out-of-town families.
Headstone Letter Repainting
What is headstone letter repainting?
Letter repainting restores faded engraving to improve readability and presentation. It’s a precision service focused on clean lines and consistent finish—appropriate for certain memorial types and engraving conditions.
Do you repaint every headstone?
Not always. Some memorials aren’t good candidates based on stone type, engraving depth, prior coatings, or condition. We evaluate first and recommend the most appropriate approach.
Should a headstone be cleaned before repainting letters?
Yes—cleaning is strongly recommended prior to repainting for optimal adhesion and long-term clarity. We clarify scope and condition before scheduling.
Will you cover the surrounding stone surface with paint?
No. The goal is neat, readable engraving—not messy overpaint. We work carefully for clean, professional results.
Flowers, Decorations & Message Delivery
What types of items do you deliver and place?
We place flowers (fresh from a florist or high-quality silk) and cemetery-appropriate seasonal décor and keepsakes—always based on what’s permitted. We do not place items that violate cemetery policy.
Do you deliver fresh flowers and silk flowers?
Yes. Many families choose high-quality silk for longer-lasting presentation, while others prefer fresh flowers for specific dates. We always recommend checking cemetery rules before purchase.
Can you place items on specific dates like birthdays or anniversaries?
Yes—whenever scheduling allows. You tell us the dates that matter, and we build a plan around them for reliable placement.
Can you deliver a written message or read a message aloud at the gravesite?
Yes. We can deliver written messages and small tokens. We also offer read-aloud or recorded-message delivery options with respectful documentation, where permitted by the cemetery.
Do you tidy the area when you place flowers or decorations?
Yes—light tidying of the immediate area is part of respectful presentation during placement, within cemetery guidelines.
Do you document delivery services too?
Yes. Before & After Photo Documentation and a Written Gravesite Condition Report are always provided.
Care Plans, Bundles & Discounts
What is a Care Plan?
A Care Plan is a scheduled, recurring approach to memorial upkeep—ideal for families who want consistent presentation throughout the year. Care Plans can include cleanings, plot upkeep, and delivery services based on your goals.
Do you offer discounts for family plots or multiple memorials?
Yes. Bundled savings are available for multiple services, family plots, or multiple memorials. Tell us what you’re responsible for and we’ll recommend the best structure.
Do you offer veteran pricing?
Yes. Veteran pricing is available for eligible services. Mention military service in your estimate request and we’ll guide you through options.
What’s the best “complete care” combination?
Many families combine gravestone cleaning + plot maintenance for a fully cared-for memorial area, then add flowers/decorations for meaningful dates.
Pricing & Payments
How is pricing determined?
Pricing varies by service type, memorial size, condition, travel, scope, and scheduling (especially around holidays). We confirm scope before scheduling so you know what to expect.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Payments can be made by credit card, cash, Venmo, or Zelle. Some recurring plans may be structured for convenience. Services are typically paid before commencement or services.
Do you provide written confirmation of what was done?
Yes. Before & After Photo Documentation and a Written Gravesite Condition Report are always provided.
Pet Memorials
Do you offer pet memorial services?
Yes. We can provide cleaning, upkeep, flowers/decorations, and custom care plans for pet memorials. If you’re honoring a beloved pet, tell us what you’d like and we’ll recommend a respectful approach.
Have a Question That Isn’t Answered Here?
If you’re not sure which service is right, send the cemetery name + town and a quick description of what you want improved. We’ll point you in the right direction and confirm availability.
